Peter Mierkowski is a qualified Psychologist, UKRC Registered Independent
Counsellor and a BACP accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist. He has over
12 years’ experience of working therapeutically with individuals,
couples and groups in the NHS, voluntary and private settings.
He holds a Diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre, London (1997).
He has also completed requirements for their PG Diploma in Psychotherapy
and is currently in the final phase of a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy.
He is a founder member of the Gestalt Centre Counsellors.
Peter has worked extensively with people from diverse cultures, social
backgrounds and sexualities. His clients are men and women, black and
white, straight and gay, from UK and abroad. For some of his clients,
UK is their new home and English, their second language. Acceptance of
each individual in their unique reality is inherent in his practice.
His particular interest lies in attending to the unique ways each person
relates to others and events in their lives. He works in a gentle and
invitational way, providing safety and support that nurtures his client's
authentic self, facilitates self-expression and creativity, and increases
capacity for intimacy with others. He has extensive experience of working
with individuals as well as couples, whatever their sexual orientation.
Peter works regularly with counselling trainees, artists and people, who
are faced with changes in their lives, search for meaning of their existence
or want to define their identity. He is also experienced in working with
people who have more specific problems, are depressed, anxious, and those
who feel frustrated, angry or insecure. Peter has considerable experience
in providing therapeutic intervention to people who seek help on the advice
of a GP or psychiatrist for debilitating complaints, including psychosomatic
and stress related symptoms, sexual concerns and compulsive behaviour.
As a Gestalt Therapist, he is open to influences from other disciplines,
in particular Object Relations theory, Self Psychology and Buddhism. His
clinical practice is also inspired by a wider field of art and movement.
Peter also offers personal development and therapy group facilitation.
Peter is available for brief and longer-term work in central London, at
the Gestalt Centre (EC2) and in Harley Street (W1), as well as in Stevenage
and Hitchin (Hertfordshire). Sessions can also be held in Polish.
