Details of Practice
Helen Hayes is a BACP Accredited counsellor, UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor, and UKCP Registered Psychotherapist, with over ten years’ experience of counselling in a variety of settings. She obtained her Diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre in 1996 and completed an MA in Existential Psychotherapy in 2006. After working for several years in the voluntary sector with survivors of trauma, abuse and violence, Helen currently works in primary care, as well as in private practice. She has considerable experience of working with clients of diverse social and cultural backgrounds, addressing a wide range of emotional difficulties and life dilemmas, in both short-term and longer-term settings.

She has also tutored on a number of counselling courses and published theoretical papers exploring the application of existential philosophy to the practice of psychotherapy. Her Masters research project concerned aspects of the experiences of migrants to the UK, and she continues to be interested in inter-cultural work and the impact of social and cultural differences on the therapeutic relationship.

Helen is interested in bringing a philosophical perspective to the exploration of life issues, valuing each individual’s unique way of constructing, experiencing, and understanding her/his life, and integrating the insights of existential thinking with the creativity and spontaneity of Gestalt practice.

Helen is currently offering low-cost supervision in West Kensington whilst completing a diploma in supervision.
